I already overstepped my "save up some money, Inez!" bounds... I was chatting with Sam online (O_o I was on AIM! You guys missed it!), and I'd asked her if she had Big O II 4 yet (it came out today). She said no, so I was like, "Hey, I'll take you to Best Buy. Like, now." So I picked her up and we went to Best Buy. Naturally, we sifted around all of the anime in the little anime section of the aisle, and I couldn't help but notice these gorgeous platinum boxes for Evangelion Platinum Edition. Naturally, with $15 in my purse and an extra $10 from Sam, I bought one.
[interesting to note: the entire purchase, both hers and mine, with the help of a peeler, cost exactly $41.00]
>.< I really shouldn't have, especially since I'm trying so hard to save up money and stuff, but it was right there, less than thirty dollars (box included), calling my name.
The box is fabulous, amazingly sturdy compared to earlier ADV boxes, with beautiful illustrations of Misato, Shinji and Rei, Asuka, Gendou, and Kaworu (yes, Kaworu! He's on the bottom, though... ~_~), all bathed in an ethereal silver light. The DVD itself has a platinum slipcover, and though I'm not thoroughly fond of seeing Shinji on the first cover (makes sense, I guess), the package is really quite nice. The case contains a ni-ice booklet with information on all five episodes included on the DVD as well as information on the angels that appear in those episodes.
I haven't yet looked at the DVD itself, but even if it's completely devoid of extras, having the first five episodes of this landmark series makes it more than worth its money.
Score one for ADV. Even if this is the third type of release for the series, it's worth every penny.
Of course, this just means that I'll have another series on my must-must-must-buy-as-they-come-out list. ~_~ I really need to find some more students. That would definitely help me out.
In other news, I went to Beth's house tonight. We watched Soylent Green. :D I don't think it was nearly as bad as it could have been, perhaps because 1) we already knew how it ended and 2) we were making fun of it the whole way through. We also figured out that a major reaosn why it's such a bad movie is because of its complete lack of music. Also, the characters were so random and unbelievable. ~_~ Pointless, really, but I wouldn't say it was a complete waste of 97 minutes, especially since we had fun watching it.
We also watched the Buffy musical (Once More With Feeling). I had to have Beth with me since I knew nothing about Buffy, but it was actually pretty cool, and there were some really nice songs in it. I was sort of angry that the ending was recorded over, because I never got to see Buffy and Spike kiss. ;_;
Irregardless of all the goodness and badness I've seen tonight, I really have to get crackin' on stuff I have to do if I ever want to get anything done. Unfortunately, real life comes before internet life, so tomorrow I'm going to go ahead and finish reading The Lively Art of Writing (finally) and starting one of the books left (haven't decided on which just yet). I'm also probably going to go out jogging in the morning, and once I'm all settled and showered and stuff, I'll go ahead and whip out ol' Vicious and give it an hour or two. Poor darling's been neglected since the lesson with my child this afternoon. Maybe after that I'll pick up some fansubs to watch (and not watch them yet) or get crackin' on The Adolescence of Utena or some Evangelion episodes, but then I'll go back to reading since it's desperately needed.
I'll be logged in on IRC the entire time, just in case I'm needed for something, so pop up in #ltgmars (on rizon) and /notice me if you're that desperate. :P
And with that, I'm off. Wanna watch stuff, yo.
