Yesterday, I went into Philly for the all-you-can-eat ice cream festival at Penn's Landing. I tied with a couple of the lovely ladies I was with at 10 sample cups. Afterwards, we walked around Old City, smelled the horses (the ones pulling carriages along), listened to a quaint couple dressed in "traditional garb" singing "traditional folk songs", and picked up delicious goods at a bakery in Chinatown.

When we got back to 69th Street, everyone else wanted to stop at the Asian market there, but I'm old and crabby and my legs hurt, so I went back to Haverford first. In front of the train station, I got honked at but realized it was one of the Haverford security guys. He recognized me and wanted to give me a ride back to the apartments. (This goes on the list entitled "you know you go to a freaking tiny school when...")

Today, I was wrangled into going to see fireworks with Andrew and Liz (mostly because I'm the only one besides Will who's allowed to drive his car), and after about 30 minutes of driving around winding roads in woodsy residential areas trying to find free parking (instead of, you know, $15), which was actually one of the best times I've ever had getting lost (love those two, they're so fun), we realized that the people we were going to meet weren't even at the same show we thought we were going to. So we drove in the other direction and ended up at the free Narberth show. Gabe was working as an EMT for the ambulance company he works for, and he was gracious enough to show us his butt pads for when he has to bike.

The fireworks were... fireworks. They were nice. I like watching them. The first song they played in the background was presumably their town song. It was incredible -- "Narberth, somethingsomething Narberth!" I didn't even realize that towns had songs like that. I want to use it as my ringtone. The second song they played was "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", and it was maybe the first time Michael Jackson's death really hit me. Watching beautiful fireworks on "America's birthday" to one of the greatest songs from the King of Pop. It was... sobering, I guess. I don't know. I almost cried.

Also, happy birthday, Scot! :D
