Aww snaps...
May. 2nd, 2004 21:38James got me listening to Utena music again. Well, mainly Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku.
Daaamn yooouuu... *shakes fist at
silvermask*
-_-;; That's the last time I try to identify songs by their lyrics. If you're wondering why this is upsetting me, just read the (translated) lyrics (I'm pretty sure the words "zettai unmei mokushiroku" mean nothing to you unless you know enough Japanese to translate it).
The absolute destiny: apocalypse
The absolute destiny: apocalypse
Birth records, baptismal registry, death records
The absolute destiny: apocalypse
The absolute destiny: apocalypse
My birth, Absolute birth, Apocalypse
A wet-nurse and a midwife in a dark desert
A gold-gilded Shangri-La
Day and night turning in on each other
A time-gilded lost paradise
Darkness over Sodom
Darkness in the light
Darkness over yonder
Darkness never ending
The absolute destiny: apocalypse
The absolute destiny: apocalyptic darkness, apocalypse
mokushi kushimo
shimoku kumoshi
moshiku shikumo
(x infinity)
So imagine this scenario. You spot a random video of some strange anime called "Revolutionary Girl Utena" on the shelf at the library, and even though it's just a couple of episodes somewhere in the middle of the series, you're like, "Eh, looks good. I'll borrow it." There are a few weird scenes where this girl with a cutesy ponytail pounces on a pink-haired girl (who just happens to be wearing a guy's school uniform) and pines over some green-haired bishounen (I personally think Touga's more attractive, but hey, to each her own - Wakaba's pretty odd anyway). A few scenes later, the pink-haired girl has to duel people for no apparent reason, so as she's climbing up these long, long stairs to some type of floating castle, those lyrics are splayed across the bottom of the screen.
Oh, and we haven't even gotten to the part with the bride and the sword that comes out of her chest. !_!
At any rate, I was very intrigued, though it annoys me how the dub pronounces it "Tenjuu". I'm going to start buying the DVDs, one by one, this summer, and if I stick to my "buying schedule" (yes, I actually made a schedule as to what I can buy and when), I should be able to finish off the series with The Adolescence of Utena in July 2005.
