Just came back from seeing HBP. Will and I only made it to the 1am showing because the seven showings clustered around 12am and 12:30am were all sold out by the time we bought our tickets online. D:

Recommendation for watching it -- don't (re)read the book before you watch the movie. The movie strays from the source material more than the first five movies did combined. It wasn't even a just matter of omitting parts or shifting information to get it to fit into the allotted time. It was blatant disregard for the pacing and tone and information and mystery. There were a zillion and a half nods to Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione, but I'm awed at how much they changed/left out/added. (Maybe I'm reacting this way because I'm fresh from rereading the book, which wasn't the case with the first five movies, but regardless, this one left a lot to be desired.)

I mean, it was okay. I enjoyed it well enough for what it was. I'm just sad because I know what it could have been.

Meanwhile, I have at least a very major cold -- congestion, sore throat, ridiculous sinus headache, finicky stomach. (Also a contributing factor to my discomfort in the movie theatre.) I'm hoping I didn't pick up mono from Will, but it's not like we swap spit often (ever). I'm just bangin' his mom, is all.

Dear you,
Good luck on your midterm today.
Love,
Hotdog

Now, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, sleep.

Matsumoto: . . . What do you think are the other member's distinctive characteristics?

Ohno: Eh, I don't think about that. [Worried about the consequence] Nino's is probably his charming-ness.

Matsumoto: Eh, how . . . cute . . . !? [Sarcastic laugh]

So I checked the scans, and Ohno actually calls Nino "cute", and Jun just repeats it in disbelief/bitterness/angry, queeny jealousy.

Still the best thing ever. Ahaha.

Meanwhile, I'm so behind on episode summaries. Guhhhhh. We're back to Himitsu already. *downloading now* I'm looking forward to seeing everyone perv on KanJun.

omg omg it can be kanjun time soon? when i get home tonight (late, so late) i am doing a picture post before going to bed, dammit. i have amassed a small, creepy collection for just this purpose from japanese blogs of high school girls who seem to emulate matsuura aya(ya) (omg nino?!), and who find it necessary to capture every minute facial movement kanjun makes at any given time.

also, i happened upon the blog of a kanjun fan who also ships sho x matsujun, and her posts were dissertations of ~*~true sakumoto love~*~, with huge walls of text (in japanese, dammit), with screencaps of every time jun and sho got close to one another on AnS (complete with purikura-style hearts on some). also she, for inexplicable reasons, inserted herself in every entry.

i of course couldn't read it, but i imagine the entries read something like this:

look at how much matsujun is smiling~ hmm, who made him smile~ sakurai-san kekekeke!

[insert dozens of screencaps]

oh and i also bought a new skirt, holla! lol! kekeke!

[inset camwhoring ~*~kawaii~*~ pictures]

anyway, matsujun is so pretty lately. do you know! if he can take time out of his so busy schedule to do face masks each night, so can i!

a w e s o m e . and yes i am at work. ok ok back to doing the task i get paid for, sigh.

edit also i don't think the thanksgiving visit will happen, but i should know for sure soon~

Interesting. I'm not fresh off a read of the book (I'm near the end of OoTP), and I thought it was fantastic. I guess at this point I'm taking the fact that there will be omissions and liberties pretty much in stride. For me, Order is the movie that really feels incomplete.

The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that Dumbledore didn't say that he wasn't afraid because he was with Harry. I did think the whole blowing up the Burrow thing was a little weird though.

As a movie, I liked it. As Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, it lacked a lot of what I liked about the book. The entire part with the Ministry, Scrimgeour, Harry's saying he's "Dumbledore's man", etc. -- it says a lot about Harry's character, and I thought it was extremely important to the story as a whole. Definitely the line that Dumbledore says about being with Harry is a keeper, too. Overall, as a movie-goer, I'm okay with taking liberties, but for the most part, the liberties taken didn't even seem necessary.

And maybe my favorite part of the book was the aftermath of Dumbledore's death -- the part where Snape is incensed at Harry's calling him a coward, how Fawkes sings into the early morning and flies away for good, the funeral. All of that made the book for me, and the movie didn't do it any justice.

My feelings are so strong definitely because I just came from rereading the book, though. Had I not read it, I might have reacted the way I did after the other movies. "It was good. I'm sad it's missing X and Y, but they did pretty well with the time they had."

Feel better soon!

I'm sorry to hear that you're sick and that your movie was disappointing. I hope you feel better soon. Morning has been in short supply for me this week, so I haven't been able to call very many times. Let's talk sometime, yeah?
