Ressspect! Go Indians!
Sep. 18th, 2004 11:41The game last night was fun. All y'all who didn't go are losers. Or people with actual lives. X_x
I arrived around 7:05, but I never got into the actual field area until about 7:15 because of the crazy parking situation (they had Marian kids directing traffic, and I parked a significant distance away from the entrance). I milled around a bit until (first person I saw who I knew was Kate (Dan's little sister), and we talked a bit before Beth called me on her cell phone and told me she was ten minutes away). I eventually found Bobby, and we talked for a little bit until Brothers and Jackie (my old soccer/track buddy from grade school... she goes to Marian <3) came up to talk with us. Beth called again, and we proceeded to try desperately to find each other. -_-;; We went to go find her Claire from Marian, and I talked to my violin friend Laura for a bit. ^^
Along the way, we randomly picked up Timo. I don't quite remember when that happened, but as it turned out, we ended up hanging out for most of the time. Beth's Claire had to go find some friends, so Beth went off with her and the other Marian kids, so Timo and I decided tostalk follow people. Good times. =^_^= We went back to where Brothers and Bobby were talking, and Brothers told stories about he made three teachers (Miss Kloska, Mr. Davidson, and Mrs. Garvey (Mrs. Brunner's assistant during freshman year)) cuss. Great storyteller, even if he is a fascist. ^^
I believe this is where Timo and I spotted Rob walking around, and Timo was like, "Is Rob here alone? We should go talk to him." I gave Timo a nice, "uhh?" look, and we decided to gostalk follow him instead. Bobby eventually came with us, and Beth showed up, saying something to the effect of, "He's eating a hot dog, you freaks."
Well, the rest of the night consisted of a lot of sneaking around, following, running, pushing each other, making fun of each other, and generally having a good time, with the occasional run-in with grade school friends (Annie, Julie, and Joshie in my case). It was mucho fun-o. ^^
In other news, I finally finished X TV! <3 <3 <3
Great series. Favorite episodes would have to be episode 12 (the one where Kamui decides to be the Dragon of Heaven, and Fuuma, as the Dragon of Earth, kills Kotori), episode 20 (the episode where we learn a bit more about Arashi, and Arashi finally tells Sorata how she feels about him (and they kiss and stuff!!!)), episode 23 (the episode where Sorata finds out why Arashi betrayed the Dragons of Heaven and ends up dying to save her, just as his destiny intended), and episode 24 (the last episode... a great ending).
The animation was nice (I was sort of hoping for something up to par with the manga, but that's asking a hell of a lot from a TV series), the music was amazing, and the seiyuu did fantastic jobs (I'm still trying to decide whether innocent Fuuma or Dark Fuuma sounded sexier... >_>). The character development for the vast majority of the characters, even with a good fourteen Dragons of Heaven/Earth and Hinoto, Kanoe, Saiki, and the lot, was excellently done (there typically was an episode devoted to each character, but since the characters' backgrounds were also intertwined with the Promised Day, character development didn't take away from plot development. Admittedly, they could have explained some more background details about the world itself and a few of the characters that didn't quite get their episode in, but it was great overall). The plot progressed nicely, and even though there was random recap episode that I really could have done without, it was well-paced. A lot of my favorite elements, as well as my favorite little tidbits of story, from the manga were left in. Kudos to the director! ^^
Oh, and Sorata and Arashi have made me a supporter of straight couples again! <3 I was getting so worried, since I was obsessed with BanxGinji, KaworuxShinji, TouyaxYukito, and FuumaxKamui (well, UtenaxAnthy, too, but that's not in the same category, really) for such a long time. It's been too long since I've watched any Kenshin, so KenshinxKaoru often slips past the cracks, but with X TV fresh in my mind, happy SorataxArashi thoughts are there. ^^ What a great couple. Kusanagi and Yuzuriha are pretty cute together, too, but Sorata was just an awesome character, so I was partial to his relationship with Arashi. Episode 20 was such a great episode, from beginning (the entire "lemme help you chop up these onions" thing) to end (Arashi's walking towards the building that Fuuma's in). When she finally half-admitted her love for him, I thought I was going to die (in bliss, not in pain)... and they kissed, too! It wasn't a "our lips are touching on screen!" kiss, nor was it that weird little illusionary "OMG, is that a kiss? What? No?" thing we saw in episode 16 between Subaru and Seishirou, but it was definitely a kiss. ^^
It was so sad that Sorata had to die. ;_; Their love was so pure... watching the character development between the two was amazing. When Arashi had Sorata in her arms and she was crying and Kamui was crying and Sorata called Arashi beautiful (it has a lot more weight if you know about his childhood and about the history of their relationship)... Oh man... ;_; The only thing that bothered me about it was that I was watching the episode on my dad's laptop, since I hadn't gotten around to burning the episodes onto CDs yet, and my mom wanted to use it. ~_~ She was trying to force me off, and she kept interrupting episode 23, so by the time I finished, I was a bit upset. When she saw me crying from the stuff that'd just happpened, she was like, "You don't have to get so worked up about it. You need to learn how to share the computer." -_-;;
*continues gushing about Sorata and Arashi*
And at the very end of episode 24, when Arashi held her head against the inside of the bell where young Sorata carved, "I hope the woman I love is really hot!" (yes, it makes so much more sense if you know the story of his childhood)... ;_; That was such a bittersweet ending for those two.
Speaking of endings... great ending. I didn't want Kamui to die, but it was really the only way everything would fall into place. I didn't really think he'd be able to "bring Fuuma back" without sacrificing something big, but I was hoping his sacrifice wouldn't be his own life. ;_; Nicely done, though. The ending wrapped everything up with a nice little message about life, death, and love, and in my mind, that was one of the better resolutions that could have come from this series.
Oh, and what a series it was. ;_; Totally worth the wait.
And, of course, the very best line in the entire thing, after everything that happened, and after all of the characters finally saw what their future was like thanks to Kamui's decision to save the world and to let all of the fallen live on in everyone else's hearts (sappy, I know... it's poignant as hell, though), was the last line, Kotori's line that had much more meaning at the end of the series than when she first said it.
The future is still undecided, isn't it?
<3 Off to go take a shower... I have a four-hour gig today, so pray for me and the $125 in cash I'll be carrying on the way home...

Sometimes I go into stages where I use certain emoticons excessively. I only typically use the \o/ /o/ \o\ thing in IRC, so you're lucky you haven't seen that yet. -_-;;
