Today is my parents' 25th wedding anniversary! Yay, happy anniversary, parents! (Not that they read this, but.)
They're really gung-ho about their anniversary, actually. No one will ever forget the date in our family, because "825" is our go-to family number. When we had a post office box at the Notre Dame post office, the number was 825. Whenever there's a four-digit lock combination, it's always 0825. It's a very important date, apparently.
They don't always get along, but they're good together. I think starting around the time I went to college and they officially became "empty nesters", they've been going to see movies together every week, and they try to eat lunch together most days. Sometimes I think back to the days when they were constantly fighting (and the one afternoon in particular when my mother locked herself in the bathroom and my dad levelly asked me, "If we get divorced, which of us do you want to live with?" and I cried for the rest of the day), and I realize how lucky I am that we're happy now. I've had an eerily charmed "ideal" life for the most part -- parents together, no death in the family, never any real worries about paying for food or clothes or school or violin lessons. I'm kind of waiting for the minute it all comes crashing down, but till then (and maybe even then, though I won't really know until it happens), I'm grateful.
Also, apparently my dad sent 25 roses to my mom's office. My mom just called to thank him, and when my dad hung up the phone he was all happy and smug and like, "I sent your mom roses. :)" Why so cute, parents? :|

Date: 2010-08-26 06:06 (UTC)Christmas Eve, yeesh. Part of me would kind of hate having major events around holidays. But there are so many holidays!

Date: 2010-08-26 06:26 (UTC)Keep on being happy and having a "eerily charmed ideal life" for as long as it's possible. That's definitely a good thing.

Date: 2010-08-28 13:53 (UTC)But anyway yes I remember back in the middle school when they just kept fighting horribly and my dad asked me the same thing. This post made me tear up realizing how thankful I am that after all those they're still together now.

Date: 2010-08-28 14:21 (UTC)Thanks and congratz on yours too! We sure do ♥. I didn't realize that until I moved here. Divorces are not as common in Indonesia, but here it seems that I have more friends with divorced parents than the ones that are still together :(
