Ripped and uploaded for Chele, but if anyone else wants it (Japanese audio, English subs), it's here.

Inspired by the recent poll in which Ghibli favorites were ranked. Mine are Totoro and Laputa, so, heh. I guess I match up with the data here.

Fun fact, from an episode of Shukudai-kun that I can't remember off the top of my head: Sho's favorite is Totoro. Aiba's and Ohno's favorite is Laputa. Nino's and Jun's favorite is Whisper of the Heart. (And now you see why I uploaded it.) Also! Nino said recently in some magazine that the love story in Whisper of the Heart is his ideal love story, and that it makes him nostalgic for youth~ or whatever. Aw, Neen.

And now, a poll:

[Poll #1618010]

Since I had a limit of 15 options, I went ahead and eliminated Ocean Waves and Tales from Earthsea because I'm assuming that no one has seen them (also, Earthsea basically sucked, so...). Also eliminated The Borrower Arrietty because it's still in theatres in Japan, and I only know of one person on my f-list who's seen it.

I went with Nausicaa. I liked Earthsea. Haven't watched Ocean Waves, Yamadas, or Pom Poko.

I really didn't like Earthsea at all! It didn't feel very cohesive as a movie for me. And my friend who's an Earthsea/Le Guin junkie also didn't like it, so it seems like it was universally unsatisfying. Or at least that's my experience.

Tie between Kiki's and Spirited Away for me. Arrietty would probably follow them. :D

I haven't seen Only Yesterday, Porco Rosso, Pom Poko, or Yamadas yet.

Thanks for uploading Whisper of the Heart! :D It's an adorable movie.

Ahahaha, Pom Poko is a riot if only because so much of the story has to do with tanuki balls. It felt like it went on a little long, though.

Can't wait to see Arrietty!

Mm, they have a certain quality and whimsy that I think you either like or don't like. They're mostly popular, though, even amongst people who don't watch a lot of anime, so I'm surprised whenever I meet someone who doesn't like them.

I saw Ponyo and hate to admit that I loved it--Alex and I sat in the theater laughing at the (many) things that simply confused us. I loved Spirited Away, not that I remember much beyond that I liked it. Princess Mononoke is also a favorite of mine, recommended, as it happened, by Bobby Gehring.
I have not seen anything besides these three...I'm sure I will at some point in the future, though.

Bobby Gehring! I think about him once in a while, mostly whenever I think about the library -> his mother -> him. I wonder how he's doing.

Ponyo was utterly hectic, but cute. It was a little too incoherent for me, though.

I'm kind of a philistine in that I'm not familiar with most of Ghibli's work. I've seen Princess Mononoke once, and Totoro once while I was babysitting. I'm interested in Grave of the Fireflies but haven't had the opportunity to watch it as of yet.

I think if I had these accessible when I was a child I might have really enjoyed them, as the one anime film I really remember from my childhood is The Fantastic Adventures of Unico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unico). I still love that movie to death to this day. ;A;

This Unico thing seems so cute! Heh, Tezuka Osamu makes some interesting characters.

I haven't seen many of these. I'm more of an anime series watcher than an anime movie watcher.

It was a toss up for me between The Cat Returns and Spirited Away. I chose The Cat Returns because I have fonder memories of seeing it. It was at an anime convention, and unlike Spirited Away, I saw it subbed.

You know, I only recently realized that The Cat Returns is a spinoff of Whisper of the Heart. I guess I was stupid not to notice the connection, but I did see it before Whisper of the Heart, so I didn't really think about it. I liked it a lot, though. :D

hey hey hey i adored earthsea! n-not that i knew that was the english name for SO LONG because i watched it when in japan. idk, i really liked it.

but i don't think i've seen enough. i adore spirited away probably a lot because i watched it when i was little. it is still so great though. and totoro, by default. cutest merchandise ever, haha.

ponyo. i must see. still. i could sing and dance that song before i'd even heard it or even knew what ponyo was. oh the power of japanese school kids, lmao.

OMG, Totoro merchandise, seriously. I always see those giant Totoro plushies that I want to take home that are, like, $100. But they seem so fluffy. *_*

Basically all you need to know about Ponyo is the song. I think you're set. :Db
