I have class in two hours, and I'm not done with the assignment (Classical Japanese, why are you like thissss), so I figured now would be the perfect time to post on my LJ.

(And for the curious, this is my class schedule for winter quarter:

MWF: n/a

TR:
0930-1045 Readings in Classical Japanese Literature: Heian
1100-1215 History of Modern Japan
1400-1515 Advanced Readings in Modern Japanese

It's nice except for the part where my M and especially W nights suck. Though you'd think by now I'd have figured out how to not procrastinate on getting work done until the night before. You'd think so, wouldn't you? How naive.)


Financial aid disbursement day was yesterday, which meant that I got all my money for the quarter in one lump sum. I'm going to try to be good this quarter and not buy things I don't need,* though after the initial amount of money I drop for the usual things, I'll probably have whiplash in my back and will be lying in bed for it anyway.

* Among the list of things I do need: More magazine, the Arashi DVD, miscellaneous Nino things. Also, food or whatever.


Speaking of Nino things, I bit the bullet and bought a ticket for GANTZ.** Since it's public transportation to get there, next week I'm going to do a dry run to make sure I know how to get to the theatre and back. For the night of, I've been maybe-jokingly considering wearing my yellow platform pumps, for Nino, but that would involve 45 minutes of public transportation either way in yellow platform pumps. Besides, if there's anyone I'm dressing up for that night, it's Morgan Freeman.***

** I rail against GANTZ for silly ideological reasons (because the original manga is kind of disgusting and full of chauvinism and misogyny and rape and myriad other things I'm not a big fan of; and while I try to be forgiving of things like that ("things like that") if I feel like there's some redeeming quality there, I really just thought it was a pile of garbage, and I couldn't get past the first volume), and I don't like the idea of giving money to the enterprise. But even as such, I think I'd regret not seeing Nino on the big screen, and I really want to support Nino as an individual, even if his choices in manga to be a fan of don't suit me. So it's with a little guilt and resignation that I'm going, but there you have it. Plus, he looks damn good in the GANTZ suit, NEGL.+

+ As always, this is just my opinion. I'm not going to rant at you or judge you or argue with you if you don't feel the same way or if you're really excited about the movie or you simply don't care.

*** This is an inside joke.

XD I love you and your fangirl ways. ♥ I do agree though, the manga really isn't that good. I even felt bad for the alien that got blasted (I tried reading it too) in it (along with similar opinions as you stated above), which is probably not how I'm 'supposed' to feel. *sigh* Oh Gantz, a disappointment indeed. The suit though, yes.

I love how you have a bunch of "see here" type things in this entry. XD

Unf, Yoko. ♥ (Ahaha, randomly.) And yeah, the manga isn't quite my thing. I feel like there's a way to do shounen manga (with all the blood and guts and sex and violence and giant breasts) without making it sick to my stomach. This definitely is not a successful foray into that "enjoyable" territory in my mind.

This is how my mind works. You and I are a lot alike, I think, with the sidebars and verbal parentheses and all that. But this is fun, too. XD

My school schedule is awesome~. I don't even know how it happened, but I'm not complaining, except on Monday and Wednesday nights. :Db

Yeah. Hellsing and Dogs do that kind of stuff well, but this most certainly does not. My friend, or well, I guess acquaintance now, agrees with us here as well. He was telling me about it before I even read or watched any (I got through one episode of the anime, and then I just couldn't). Ah well, I'll probably watch the movie eventually... Purely because of Nino.

Some of the most fun indeed. :D

That was mine last term, and I really want it back. I understand the Monday/Wednesday thing well really, though it didn't stop me from completely slacking off either...

Uuuu those classes, man. It's so funny to me, to see such a concentrated curriculum, unlike history where we take really varied courses all over the place. I guess it makes sense for a degree in Japanese to focus on . . . the Japanese language.

I forgive you for purchasing a ticket to Rape Fest '11. Just promise me you'll post a nice review with plenty of critiquing if necessary.

I don't think my courses have to be this concentrated, but I kind of picked 'em this way this quarter. Maybe next quarter I'll do something random and outside of my area of expertise.

I wanted to sneak into the theatre so that I could go watch and support Nino without paying for it, but the badass ladies and gentlemen from SouthLAnd would probably come get me. :o

I've been studying Japanese since my first year in undergrad (so four and some years ago), and right now I'm getting my master's degree in East Asian Studies, with a focus on Japan. I want to be a professor eventually, which means that I'll have to be able to read and write and speak and listen to Japanese pretty fluently. It's my life goal, I guess. XD

I will perhaps write a report! :D

Heh, it's fine~. So much of the time, we only know certain things about our online friends, and when it comes to simple knowledge of the major aspects of their lives, we really know nothing at all.

Mm, I'm hoping to focus on literature in particular, though I'm sure language and culture will be in there by default.

That's cool! Once i tried to enter uni to become a teacher of Japanese but I couldn't afford me to pay for it, it's was a way too expansive for our folks huh:) so, good luck to you! :)

And ngl, I think Nino is a bit of a male chauvinist himself just from the little things he's said on the variety shows...

The manga's pretty awful. But the movie should be a prettied-up version of it, and Nino and MatsuKen are nice to look at, so it should be good.

GIRL HE TOTES IS. Ugh. Or, like, I feel like I want him to transcend the usual Japanese attitude of chauvinism and misogyny, and it hurts that he doesn't. Hahaha I don't know that you were around for it, but back in July I had this, like, Nino break down during which I hated him for two days because I realized how much of his personality and ways of thinking I found unsavory. But at the same time, I kind of love how smart he is, and how he thinks a little differently from the rest of them, even though he still subscribes to those harmful attitudes about women and the like.
