some stuff
Dec. 15th, 2011 18:14Firstly, to those of you who happened to catch my post from last night, thank you for reaching out. It was a terrible night made worse by academic/life burnout, but I'm really okay and usually quite the opposite of how I was when I wrote that entry. But regardless, I'm really grateful that I have people who take care of me, so again, thank you. ♥
Question: How is The Hunger Games different from Battle Royale? This isn't a diss or anything; I'm legitimately curious. It just seems like the overarching premise is the same (though the way they get there is different, I suppose). But I've heard such good things about The Hunger Games. Can someone explain how they're different?
And a meme that I didn't realize I would get tagged for (damn you, Ashley...):
Five Things Meme
Comment to this post, and I will list five things I associate with you. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your LJ (or just add a reply back to me). Other people (including me) can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
Inocchi: Ohgosh what can I even say about him? I am absolutely honored to be associated with him, because he just makes me so happy. He's one of those celebrities I admire as an idol and as a person. As many strange and goofy moments as he has, I just think he's a good guy, through and through, and he cares so much about people whether or not he knows them, and he makes me want to live a good, fulfilling life in the same way. He's still the only idol who's ever made me cry because of how grateful I am to be his fan, and how much I just want him to be happy. He's beautiful. ♥
Snow: I think one of my biggest dissatisfactions in being here in LA is the utter lack of real seasons. I grew up in Indiana and went to college in Pennsylvania, so I'm pretty used to temperate weather. And yeah, cold is cold, and yeah, muggy is muggy, but at least there were seasons. One of my fondest memories from college is roadtripping around the northeast during fall break with William and seeing all of the gorgeous fall colors. No such thing happens in LA -- especially where I am.
Er, the point is snow, right? Nowadays I really miss snow. Have you ever walked outside in the middle of the night after it's been snowing, and just been amidst all that cold, quiet stillness? It was one of my favorite things to do when I was up late in college during winter; all that's out there is you and your breath and your thoughts and the sound of snow crunching beneath your feet. I can't have those meditative moments in the snow out here, and it makes me really sad. I just. I miss seasons a lot. :(
Dragon Ball: Haha I like this association. Is it because of my username? Is it because I love Gohan so much?? I do! He was my first anime "crush", I suppose. Anyway, I was totally of that generation who watched DBZ on TV after coming home from school. My brother and I would always make fun of how long it took for them to get through transformations and powerups, but we watched anyway. XD I'm glad it's a part of my life.
Food: Heeeeeee the Great Canadian Food Tour still a go, one of these days! I'm not much of a gourmet -- if I order something at a restaurant and you ask me what's in it, I don't have the brainpower to remember anything except "it sounds good" -- but food is definitely something I enjoy. And, barring some foods I don't want to eat for ethical reasons, I'm up for trying most anything... except spicy foods. D:
Concerts: I suppose concerts of several varieties could count here, but for Ashley-purposes I'm going to go with concert-watching, which I really love! I know some people aren't in JE fandom for concerts or the music, but I'm definitely one of those get-into-all-aspects kinds of people, so I love watching the con DVDs, and I love having fan moments with others. I have somewhat impressive stamina when it comes to music-related things, so I can watch concerts for hours without getting bored.
We're at the end of the quarter here. I have to finish up some stuff, and then I'm at home for a couple of weeks, which'll be nice. I really, really need a break right now. Meanwhile, it's been quiet on my LJ, but I do still read your entries. :D I suppose I'll write up things on San Diego/Philadelphia/Oakland/San Diego at some point... one of these days.

Date: 2011-12-16 05:09 (UTC)Aawww Dragon Ball and Gohan. He was such a cute little boy, isn't he? Too bad he turns into...whatever he turns into XD My sister and I used to make fun that we can watch Dragon Ball once every three months and the story will still be in the middle of the same battle when we left it. It's so...dragging XD
Give me the five things meme? :D

Date: 2011-12-16 06:10 (UTC)Awww, Gohan! I love him! Him and Goten both, really. Man, I just found Goku's entire little family so adorable. Also, I'm pretty sure I had a crush on Trunks when I was thirteen. Along with every other prepubescent geek girl out there.

Date: 2011-12-17 13:10 (UTC)Yes! His entire family is just so cute. And of course, Trunks. Hahaha I've just started thinking about the premise of his character and it's so cute but so strange. Anyway.

Date: 2011-12-17 13:14 (UTC)Battle Royale is a surprisingly quick read, for how thick the book is. I think the language is just very clean and easy, and that's what makes it go so quickly. Anyway, I was really charmed by it... which isn't to say that I wouldn't be charmed by The Hunger Games, but I wanted to know more about them comparatively.
