Another St. Valentine's Day Al-Own...

Did you ever notice that no one ever calls him St. Valentine anymore? I mean, did we all forget whom this holiday is in homage to?* I feel like I'm the only one who says St. Valentine. Even in a Catholic school, people are like, "Happy Valentine's Day"... things have become too secular, yo.

*And yes, as hard as I try to be grammatical and otherwise annoyingly anal in correctitude, I always end up finishing sentences using prepositions, and as we all know, prepositions aren't things to end sentences with.

Heh.

So yup, another St. Valentine's Day Al-Own. I was really considering sending a singing valentine to Ilse, signed "Ann Onimuss" (note that taking out "nn Onimu" gives you something of mine Ilse would have kicked once she'd returned to her seat), but I decided against it. Besides, it's not like I have three dollars to dish out [on anything other than anime/manga], anyway. I did get some nice phone calls from Ilse and Claire today, but they were strictly business.

Besides, hearing sweet nothings from two girls over the phone wouldn't make up for not having a guy to be with. -_-

Congrats to everyone who has something romantic to do today (here's lookin' at you (in that platonic, non-sexual way), Rae!), and hats off to all you single ladies and gentlemen out there... I know how ya feel!

Certainly many saints out there don't deserve to be saints. I mean, we studied St. Augustine in eighth grade (I was thoroughly disgusted; it's times like those that make me doubt the Catholic church...), and he's just one of many cases. You still can't deny he's a saint, though, and however unsaintly he is, he should be referred to as "Saint Augustine" when used in formal statements.

Like holidays. The names of holidays should be kept formal (though what you say is true, I suppose... the importance of holidays is left up to personal interpretation), since they're obviously important enough to be regarded secular by whomever it is that makes the "official holidays". Though belief in praying to patron saints and whatnot may be a strictly religious practice, sainthood itself is acknowledged by everyone and not just by specific church orders (I'm not sure of this, though, but if it weren't true, I don't think I'd by living in St. Joseph county). Therefore, calling Valentine by his proper title, "St. Valentine", is something everyone should remember to do, especially when referring to a day named after him. I mean, as fun as it is to call a teacher by just their last name, you usually want to tack on their title (Mr./Mrs., Miss, Professor, Dr., etc.) for respect's sake.

And here's when I'd ask you to explain the history behind the whole Roman orgy festival to me, but we can save that for a later day.

Between Augustine and Thomas Aquinas ... bah ... running the Jewish religion through the glasses of greek philosophy. I swear, the two of them cursed Christianity to 2000 years of a horrible, evil understanding of God.

Augustine is no saint in my book. I don't care if he is cannonized in the Roman Catholic church.

Just like Valentine I refuse to refer to him by his ill-gotten title, lest we drive down the value of the title. Some saints deserve their title (Francis of Assisi) most don't.
