the world today || cheese
Jul. 24th, 2006 21:52While I was walking to the car after work today, there were three people outside of the School of Business building, fiddling with their cell phones. Then a fourth came out, and a fifth and sixth in quick succession, and the first thing I thought was, "Are they calling each other or something?"
It's kind of funny, actually. Has technology overrun our lives? I can't imagine going a day without my computer. People depend on these things to survive. And at various colleges (like Notre Dame and Haverford), you're expected to have a cell phone. They don't even put phone lines in anymore.
I'd like to try to live without technology, just for a week. Reading books and knitting by candlelight sounds like my type of thing.
I've had the worst cravings for cheese all day. I'm so, so tempted to go out and get some macaroni and cheese (or even just some cheese cubes) right now. I called my mother in desperate attempts to get some earlier today, but she wasn't picking up her cell phone and therefore came home with no cheese. ;_; I think I'm going to go raid the fridge now, but alas, I don't know if we have any cheddar or American cheese lying around or just that random spicy crap with real bits of dead body! inside. Daddy laughed at me when I called it "the scary cheese".
